The ponds were formed with planting shelves of varying depths, then lined with Bentomat clay. The liner was then covered with some of the spoil from the works, with the rest landscaped into the pond surrounds.
Large weathered granite boulders were incorporated into the design to create a natural appearance so as the ponds mature they will seem to have always been there.
Dartmoor Pond Services were asked to design and construct a series of wildlife ponds at Lanivet summer 2020
The site for the ponds is a sloping area in the grounds of the property alongside an avenue of ancient lime trees.
We excavated three ponds, two approximately 9m x 10m and the third 15m x 20m, with depths up to 2m, each pond overflows to the next.
We stocked the ponds with a wide variety of water plants supplied by www.devonpondplants.co.uk Already local wildlife is colonising the new habitat and this will only increase as the pond mature in the coming years.
